Search tips

Each record in IPFSAPH has been indexed by Commodity, Cross-Sectoral Issue, Country, Information Source and Information Type with a controlled list of keywords. This means that when you are browsing Commodity, Cross-Sectoral Issue , Country, Information Source, or Information Type, all records within the portal are available (or categorized) within each view.

Based on this indexing method, the Search by Topic(s) search mechanism allows you to perform a multi-topic search. For example, you can find results about:

  • Live Animals in Canada (Commodity: live animals, Country: Canada)
  • Standards on Labeling adopted by Codex (Cross-Sectoral Issue: Labeling, Type: Standards, Source: Codex)

Getting Started
  1. Go to Search by Topic(s)

  2. Select a keyword from one or more drop-down boxes in topics that interest you. You will see a number next to each entry in the drop down box. This number tells you how many records have been indexed using that term. For example, Risk analysis (304) indicates that there are a total of 304 records total in the portal that use the keyword "risk analysis''.

  3. Click on ''Search''. You will now be directed to the Search Results screen.

Search tips

Too many results?

  • Select more topics: Refine your search further by selecting keywords from more topics to return the most specific results possible. You might also click on the Advanced Search for more options;

  • Free Text Refinement: There is a free text search box on the right-hand side of the results page that can be used to refine your search by entering one or more terms and clicking "Search within results".

Little or no results?

  • Broaden your search: Broaden your search by de-selecting keywords from one or more topics.  To receive more results, try broadening your preferences by only selecting two topics, rather than three, four or five. If you are still getting minimal results, you might try a full text search. Please refer to the Simple Search for more information.
